We are an adventure travel and outdoors organization based in Nepal specialising in mountain climbing, ‘off-the-beaten’ track adventure holidays, 4WD overland tours, white water rafting, mountain biking. We operate comprehensively in Nepal and Tibet and also run special interest tours to India, Bhutan and China.

The Company was founded by Mr. Suman Pandey nine years ago, who is a renowned personality of the Nepalese Tourism Industry. He has a wide experience of Travel and Tour operation in the Himalaya with his 16 years of involvement in this trade. He is currently nominated as an executive member of Nepal Tourism board by His Majesty Govt. of Nepal, also held the post of President of Trekking Agent Association of Nepal (TAAN) from 2001 to 2003.

In Tibet, we have our own team of highly qualified tourism professionals, who specialize in traveling in Tibet. The office staff has all been trained through our office in Kathmandu and our guides have many years experience in the field. Besides, we work in closest of relationships with the best local operators in Bhutan & India.

Our philosophy

We believe in ‘Sustainable Tourism’ through Eco-friendly Practices. Our Philosophy is, ‘Tourism for Development’. Mr. Suman Pandey, the General Manager, is one of the activists in the development of Sustainable Tourism Development in Nepal and also one of the promoters of Eco Trekking activities in Nepal.

Besides its objective to function as a specialist adventure and cultural tour operator, Explore Himalaya is committed and dedicated to serve the nation as well by paying back it’s local community. To enrich the objective, Explore Himalaya has initiated a solely private project named “EXPLORE HIMALAYA COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM”. With the motto; “Development through Tourism”, it is aimed to let rural people of Nepal benefit from tourism. This program would help the needy & deprived people especially in the rural part of the country by different forms of community service oriented projects. Explore Himalaya wants to contribute a part of its profit to support the project and also hopes to get contributions from tourists groups, individuals, national and international institutions etc who seek to make a meaningful contribution towards Nepalese Rural Communities and help the country to step ahead for the sustainable development.

Environmental consideration

Wonderful environment of the Himalayas is also an extremely fragile one. Increasing population density and number of trekkers threatens to destroy the very beauty which attracts us in the first place. At Explore Himalaya, we are extremely environmentally conscious and aim to minimise our impact as much as possible.

As deforestation is one of greatest environmental threats, we do not have camp fires and use kerosene for cooking as an alternative fuel to wood. We also discourage trekkers from using wood-fuelled hot showers in lodges along the way. Many lodges, however, now provide solar hot showers, a far more eco-friendly alternative.

Garbage disposal is another major problem and some of the busier trails can, at times, appear strewn with litter. Our staff members are well motivated towards Eco-friendly practices. We carry out all our garbage, apart from that which can be safely and easily burnt at the campsite.

Our aim is to help protect and preserve this beautiful environment for future generations of trekkers to enjoy.

Care for porters & staff
We ensure that all porters and all other staff going above the tree line are provided with adequate clothing and equipment. We are the first ever company to supply high-altitude porters with crampons. We provide life insurance and emergency helicopter evacuation for our staff.

We run the trek according to the guidelines of the International Porter Protection group (IPPG - www.ippg.net).
